What are the steps for upgrading a website?
The planning and design steps are the same as for building a new website, but the biggest difference between building a new website and upgrading an existing one, is that you’ve already registered the domain name and have got a hosting package. The hosting package may need to be changed however, if it doesn’t meet the minimum requirements and sometimes it’s more feasible to to transfer your website to a different hosting provider.
How do we integrate the new/old websites?
Because we design websites using a Content Management system, we are in effect building a new website for you. Each page has to be recreated on the CMS. If the page structure on the old website is clean and consistent, then we might be able to keep the same url. This is especially handy for web pages that have already got a good page ranking. Each page is assessed on its own merit.
If it’s not possible to keep the same URLs, then we create new pages with different urls and edit the old pages to point towards the new website. This would happen after the upgrade has been completed. It can be very time consuming, depending on the number of existing pages, and isn’t included in our special offer. We’ll give you a quote for this extra work.

In other words, the background, chosen colours and layout are kept separately to the information that you add, such as text and photos, which is stored in a database.
