Promoting your website includes great search engine results (appearing at the top of their results pages), paid advertising, word-of-mouth, viral marketing, as well as links to / from your website. You should use all of these tools for a well-rounded marketing campaign.

Google Adwords

If you’d like to start getting traffic as quickly as possible, then using pay-per-click (PPC) tools like Google Adwords is an excellent idea. You create a marketing campaign with your Google account and specify which keywords you’d like to advertise your website with. You only pay for advertising when someone clicks on your ad.

We advise our clients on how to set up and manage an Adwords campaign, as well as their all-important landing pages to get the highest return on their investment.

There are two places where your ads can appear, (i) in a query on a search engine, normally at the very top in a different colour to the rest of the results (ii) content advertising on other people’s websites (as per the web-design related ads on the right side of this page). You’ll probably need to pay a deposit before the campaign starts and the costs can run up very quickly. Watch your campaign very carefully and read their documentation, it’s very helpful.

Sponsored Links

Other websites also offer sponsored advertising. Generally, the more traffic and more authoritative the website is, the more you’re going to pay for a sponsored listing. If possible, try to get a 3-month contract to see what your return-on-investment might be.

Naturally you should monitor your advertising budget and spend very carefully, as you could be spending a fortune and not seeing the results you hoped for in return.
